Hi there! I decided to make this tutorial in two parts, because materials, lights and rendering work toguether, and you cannot make one of them without the other, so here on the first part, we'll talk about basic materials.
You'll learn:
- Create Materials.
- Tweak basic material parameters.
- Apply materials to objects.
- Apply different materials to the same object.
On the second part I'll explain how to use lights and making renders :)
Happy blending!

Thanks, great !!!
pretty cool tutorial, but could you do a sequel about advanced stuff that is on the Materials Panel.
and also continue with explanation of all the panels: texture, constraints, etc.
I didn't find tutorials on the web explaining all this kind of stuff, so it will be awesome of you could such thing.
thanks again!
Thank you!
@Alex: I plan on do it in the future, but I need time, because there are a loooot of things to explain xD So first I'm focusing on the basics, and when the basics are covered, I'll go through more advanced stuff.
Also, the reason for not covering textures on this tutorials, is that textures need their own tutorial, in juntcion with Uvs, there will be a tutorial about this in the near future :)
Constraints, bones, compositing and all that cool stuff are also on my schedule, but I have just a little time for making tutorials, so they wll be coming up slowly ;)
Stay tuned, and thanks for your comments! ;)
Oliver,
Your tutorials are very straightforward and concise, and this is what you need to learn the main functionalities of Blender.
Thank you, Great Job!!
Antonio
Thanks, Antonio! :)
Thanks Oliver for your work! It is better without music ;)
Even though, I like the one you usually put on.
Glad you like it, laabo :) And I agree, I was experimenting but I finally think that is better without music, also, that way, if you want to have background music... you can put your own :D
Thanks!
Hello, I was watching your vid and you showed this amazing thing to apply more textures on one object, however, you use a menu/shortcut that i cannot find it, could you please tell me where i can find it/the shortcut?
A frustrated admirer of your great work.
Thanks ;) Can you be a bit more specific on what you cannot do? For assigning more than one material to the same object I use the menu on the Material Panel.
For applying the material of the active object to the rest of the selected ones, the shortcut is Ctrl+L (Link) ;)
Hope it helps!
Yeah, thanks a lot! =D
Thank you for these great tutorials! I agree that it is better to have no music (or at least very quiet music).
I was quite frustrated too, when the commentator said "go here" without saying what he was pressing on the keyboard. 10 minutes later after several searches, I discovered this to be pressing tab to go into edit mode and then pressing control tab to change the select mode to "face". Hope this saves someone else 10 minutes. Otherwise, the videos have been great!
Well, the thing here is that this is a tutorial series, and I cannot explain absolutely everything on each tutorial. I already explained that things on previous tutorials, and when starting this one, you're suposed to know what we saw on the previous ones ;)
